Foster Care/Adoption Orientation - Part 2

Last night we went to the second orientation. We got there about 1/2 hr late coz I had to feed Jack first, I didn't want to leave him at home with an empty stomach. It started at 5:45pm we got there at about 6:15pm.

We met with several foster parents and adoptive parents. First it was Lynnette, she has two daughters of her own. She and her husband wanted to expand the family so they decided to foster, not adopt, just strictly fostering kids. Their age range was 0-5yrs. They ended up adopting 3 kids that they had fostered, two boys and a girl. Lynnette and her husband have not been fostering for about 2 years since they adopted the little girl. Second was a couple, Bryan and LeeAnn. They, at first, also wanted to foster only but they ended up adopting two boys, Jonathan and James. They got these boys when they were babies, now they are 9 and 7. Bryan and LeeAnn are still fostering kids, but they only want infants up to 5 yrs old. The third person that we talked to was Pam... and we spent a lot of time talking with her. She was very very informative about the whole picture as well as the itsy bitsy details. There are too much information and details to put on this page. In short, we went home feeling a little bit overwhelmed but even more excited about becoming foster parents. At the end of the sessions we were given forms to fill out. That's what I'm doing right now.

Mike and I were talking last night and we kind of decided to foster kids from 0-15yrs in order to provide both of our needs. See... I want babies to 6-7yrs old kids but Mike wants bigger kids - teenagers because (besides the fact that he's a youth pastor at our church) he says most of people just want the cute little babies and kids, nobody wants to foster bigger kids. And these teenagers also need TLC (tender, loving, care). I told Mike maybe school aged kids thinking that we both work full time, but Mike knows that I really want babies so he says babies are ok too. You see, the agency do not provide daycare for under-aged kids who need daycare, and when Mike says OK instantly I remember that there's a child care right in this building where I work. There's also a Montessorri daycare across the street from where I work. So later today I have to go to these two places to check 'em out.

Next week we're going to the the last orientation. I think after that then we'd have to go to training in order to get our license. OK guys, I'd add up something when something else is come up for me to write more on this subject. Right now I'm gonna fill out these forms and after work Mike and I are going to the Police Station by our house to get our finger print done.
